Collection: Calgary Clay Co.
My love for clay began during my pharmacy degree when I enrolled in community pottery classes as a creative escape from studying. Those early years learning in community classes built a great foundation, but as my career and family grew, pottery slipped into the background. Life was busy! Our pace of life in Calgary felt relentless—always rushing from one thing to the next, caught in a hamster wheel and little time for creativity or pause.
Then, at a time of peak stress and burnout, life offered an unexpected reset.
My partner’s job took our young family to Oman for four years. It was a shift from Calgary’s fast-paced life and an invitation to live slower, with more intention.
In Muscat, I found my peace at a volunteer-run pottery studio. Surrounded by generous mentors and a vibrant clay community, my passion for the craft was reignited. There, I immersed myself in pottery again—before long, I was teaching wheel classes and working alongside the kiln team.
Back in Calgary, we’ve built a small pottery studio in the basement of our home, where I create every handmade ceramic mug, bowl, and plate—all twice fired in a kiln tucked in our garage. I make a lot of trips up and down the stairs!
Today, growing Calgary Clay Co. has been my way of leaning into slow living and choosing a more intentional path. I balance studio life with part-time work as a consultant pharmacist in diabetes care, approaching both with the same purpose: to slow down, create meaningful connection, and find joy in the process. I also love being part of the clay community and sharing my skills as a way to give back and stay connected to the craft that continues to inspire me.
